7 Troubleshooting
Problem
Possible cause / solution
Cannot connect to SMU
management page
• Management port is not connected to the network.
• Wrong IP address or VLAN tag.
• No IP route from browser to MSA1510i.
• No IP route from MSA1510i back to browser
• Browser is on a different VLAN than the MSA1510i management port.
• HTTP is disabled on the MSA1510i.
• H T T P S i s d i s a b l e d o n t h e MS A 1510 i ( i f S S L ) .
• HTTP port on the MSA1510i has been assigned a different number.
• Bad cable connected to the network.
• Other network problem; verify connectivity to the management port with
ping command.
• MSA hardware problem – check status LEDs and front panel messages.
Cannot connect to the CLI
via Secure Shell or Telnet
• Telnet or Secure Shell is disabled.
• Management port is not connected to the network.
• Wrong IP address.
• No IP route from the browser to the MSA1510i.
• No IP route from the MSA1510i back to the browser.
• SSH/Telnet client is on a different VLAN than the MSA1510i management port.
• Telnet or Secure Shell port on the MSA1510i has been assigned a different
number.
• Bad cable connected to the network.
• Other network problem; verify connectivity to the management port with
ping command.
• MSA hardware problem – check status LEDs and front panel messages.
Cannot connect to the CLI
via the front serial port
• Ve
rify serial port communications is set to 19200-N-8-1.

rong cable.

ad serial port – try a different computer.

ry the serial port on the other MSA controller.
• MSA hardware problem – check status LEDs and front panel messages.
• MSA baud rate may have been altered; try automatic or set other common
rates and then retry.
Forgot management login
and password
• Reset the management login and password from the front panel display or
through the serial port CLI. The default username and password are both “root”.
Forgot IP address of
management port
• View or set the IP address from the front panel display.
• If you know the IP subnet, use HP-SIM to do an automatic discovery.
Microsoft iSCSI initiator
cannot add a discovery
portal
The initiator name in the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator software does not match the
name entered for the initiator in the MSA1510i SMU or CLI.
