5 Available monitoring tools
The MSA1510i is unique in the MSA product family with its integrated configuration utilities and
management agents. This section describes the confi guration options of these integrated utilities and
agents, including:
• HP Systems Insight Manager (HP-SIM)
•SNMPservicesettings
• Ethernet network trafficorprotocolanalyzer
HP Systems Insight Manager
HP Systems Insight Manager (HP-SIM) is useful for managing and monitoring a large number of systems. It
acts as a collection point for SNMP traps and can periodically sweep the network to discover new systems.
HP-SIM registers the MSA1510i through either automatic discovery by a ping sweep or by manual entry
of the MSA1510i management IP address. HP-SIM 4.2 or later can recognize the MSA1510i as a storage
device. For older versions of HP-SIM, you may add the MSA1510i to the list of known system types by
creating a
rule to match the MSA1510i system object identifier: 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.13.2

SNMP service settings
An SNMP management system, such as HP Systems Insight Manager (HP-SIM), can read the MIBs in the
MSA1510i if the community string matches. Set the community string as appropriate. The MSA1510i
supports sending SNMP traps to up to four destinations, as long as the community strings match.
