HP-SIM server 100.50.1.200 2
As illustrated in this example:
The management network and the storage network share the same physical infrastructure that is
connected to the MSA1510i and are differentiated using VLAN tagging at the MSA1510i and
separated at the Ethernet switches. The management network is tagged with a VLAN ID of 2 and
the storage network is tagged with a VLAN ID of 3. To guarantee access to the MSA in the event of
a failover, a switch needs to be in place on the management LAN that has a path to each of the
switches above the MSA1510i. The management VLAN must include all 3 switches. The management
network handles normal communication trafc for the servers, while the storage network connects
the servers to the MSA1510i.
HP Systems Insight Manager (HP-SIM) is being used as a central management system to monitor
servers and storage devices. HP-SIM is located on the ProLiant server as is the Integrated Lights-Out
Management NIC, and, on the MSA1510i, the management network is physically connected to the
two potential management ports (MA0 and MB0). In this scenario, the MSA1510i management IP
address has been registered with HP-SIM and the IP address of HP-SIM is entered as the destination
for SNMP traps that it generates. HP-SIM periodically collects SNMP data from the MSA1510i that is
available through the “Data Collection Report” of the “Links section for the MSA1510i. HP-SIM also
provides a link to the Storage Management Utility (SMU) page of the MSA1510i.
Because this example includes multiple servers in the storage network, iSCSI CHAP authentication
should be enabled to ensure that only the intended server accesses its intended iSCSI target. CHAP
