HP StorageWorks 1510i Modular Smart Array iSCSI concepts and deployment guide (431338-002, July 2008)

ACLs are not dened (as in Basic conguration 1), all initiators connected to a port can access all
storage targets (and their mapped LUNs) associated with that port.

In this example, of the four network servers, two are assigned to each subnet (and storage port. To
enable full access to both ports, the servers may be multi-homed on a single NIC to have presence on all
subnets. An alternative to multi-homed NICs is to atten the network into one subnet for all network ports.
Example advanced congurations
As more servers access the MSA1510i, a failure in the network or MSA1510i becomes increasingly
difcult to manage. A more advanced conguration is needed to ensure uninterrupted access to the
storage in these more complex networks. On the MSA1510i, high availability is achieved through
a combination of redundant components (controllers, power supplies, fans), high-availability network
designs, and vertical striping of RAID sets (to protect against hard drive failures).
In the following congurations, more advanced capabilities of the MSA1510i are introduced, including:
Dual M
SA controllers
VLANs
iSCSI CHAP authentication
Remo
te monitoring
NOTE:
To simplify the illustrations, Advanced Congurations 1 and 2 omit some of the previously introduced
concepts of the Basic congurations, but this does not imply that the new concepts introduced cannot be
used together with the previous concepts.
