• VLANs require
support for 802.1q.
Network cables
• Useonlycategory5eCertifi ed, or better.
Network Interface
Cards (NICs)
• Use separate GigE NICs for each path; dual-port adapters do not count as separate
adapters.
• Use only standard GigE NICs. TCP Offload Enabled (TOE) NICs are not supported.
If using the latest ProLiant G5 servers with TOE capability, the TOE option with
iSCSI offload is currently not supported.
• Multi-NIC interfaces per subnet will result in a non-responsive network port.
• A server NIC may be multi-homed.
Multipathing Device
SpecificM
anager
(DSM)
• The MSA1510i uses the Microsoft DSM, available on the Microsoft
website:h
ttp://www.microsoft.com .
Subnets
• The MSA1510i supports up to eight IP addresses per storage port, in multiple
subnets or within one subnet.
• Subnets cannot cross VLANs.
Target discovery
• Send Targets — is the simplest form of discovery and is enabled by entering the
portal address of the any one of the targets into the discovery section of the initiator.
• iSNS discovery — iSCSI Storage Name Service (iSNS) registers all iSCSI targets
with one or more iSNS servers.
• SLP discovery — Service Location Protocol (SLP) is a lightweight protocol that allows
registrationanddiscoverywithinasiteviaaUserAgent(UA)orDiscoveryAgent
(DA).
Initiators
• Maximum of 32 iSCSI initiators can be defined on the MSA.
• Maximumof20iSCSIinitiatorscanhaveactiveiSCSIsessionsatanygiventime.
Sessions and
connections (logins)
• Maximumof32iSCSIsessionspercontroller.
• Two TCP connections per iSCSI session.
Digests
• By default, iSCSI digests are disabled on initiators.
• By default, iSCSI digests are enabled on the MSA1510i.
• To use digests, you must enable the feature in the iSCSI initiator software.
Portal groups
• All storage portals in a portal group must be assigned to the same storage port.
• Up to 32 portal groups can be defined for the MSA.
Portals
• A maximum of 32 portals can be defined in the MSA.
• Currently,allportalsinaportalgroupmustbeonthesamephysicalport.
IP address
• A maximum of eight per storage port.
Management port
• The management port on each controller must be assigned an IP address.
Targets
• Nodenamesmustbe223bytesorlessandmaycontainalphabeticcharacters(a
to z), numbers (0 to 9) and three special characters: ‘.’, ‘-‘, and ‘:’.
• Names must follow the iSCSI naming convention, such as “iqn.1986–03.hp.com.stor-
age.msa”.
• Node names are encoded in the UTF8 character set. (The initiator service does not
support UCS-4 characters.) RFC 2044 describes UTF8 encoding.
• Uppercase characters are always mapped to lowercase.
• Up to 32 targets can be defined on the MSA.
CHAP
authentication
• CHAP secrets must be at least 12 characters.
VLANs
• Up to eight storage VLANs per physical port.
