Gateways
The MSA1510i su
pports the ability to enter gateway information for the storage ports. If you want to go
outside your s
ubnet, you must enter this information in the system route table — you specify the static IP
address of the destination network for the storage port to use as a default gateway.
With the default gateway, any packets that are going outside of the subnet will go out to the router.
The storage ports on an MSA controller share a route table, so SA0 and SA1 are interchangeable,
and SB0 and SB1
are interchangeable.
NOTE:
In dual-controller configurations, because the MSA1510i maintains a separate route table for each
controller, be sure to make appropriate entries to the routing table of each controller.
Currently, route tables are modified through the MSA Command Line Interface (MSA-CLI). When entering
the destination network and gateway, if desired, you can enter a network IP address of 0.0.0.0/ 0.0.0.0
as the default network of last resort. For configuration information, see the add route command in
the MSA1510i CLI User guide. (The IP is the address of the destination network, not the destination
IP itself. The target side needs to find the initiator’s network, so that is the network that needs to be
entered on the target side.)
IMPORTANT:
• When using routers, latency issues may affect performance.
• Becauseuserdataisnotencryptedateitherend, configuring an IP SAN across a wide area network
is not recommended. In wide area networks, HP recommends using an external IP-SEC device.
• Make sure that the gateway is set up properly on the initiator system and have end-to-end, verified
connectivity. For more information, see the Server Documentation about setting up a default gateway
for a TCP/IP node.
• Because TCP checksum escapes may go undetected when going across multiple routers, HP strongly
recommends that header and data digest support be enabled. Login parameters are pre-set with
defaults, but these settings may be changed through the SMU or MSA-CLI. For more information, see
the Set Login Parameters option in the SMU user guide or the set iscsi keys command in the
MSA1510i CLI user guide.
