Storage ports
Two storage ports are available on each MSA controller, for a total of four storage ports in a
dual-controller configuration.
In contrast with the management port, to which the MSA firmware automatically assigns an IP address,
you must manua
lly assign IP addresses to each available storage port.
Network storage portals
Each storage port may be configured with up to eight IP addresses. To create unique storage portals,
define a tuple consisting of a storage port’s defined IP address and an TCP listening port. The default
TCPportis3260,butmaybechangedtoauser-defined, TCP number. The combination of IP address
and TCP listening port creates a storage portal on the storage port.
On the MSA1510i, multiple portals can be assigned to each storage port, creating multiple IP pathways
through that physical port.
Consider:
• The MSA1510i supports the ability to create multiple storage portals per storage port.
• Multiple IP addresses can be assigned to each storage port.
• Multiple TCP port can be defined to create unique storage portals for each IP address.
• The total number of storage portals for the system is limited to 32, in multiple subnets or within
one subnet.
NOTE:
In dual-controller configurations, you install an additional controller and Ethernet iSCSI module, with each
module connecting to a separate Ethernet network switch for true path redundancy. When configuring
storage ports in redundant configurations, use a configuration strategy that provides a redundant path
on the same port number of both controllers. More details are included in later sections of this guide.
The following image illustrates a possible IP addressing scheme, showing initiator network portals and
storage target network portals.
