IMPORTANT:
Management trafficandiSCSItraffic are handled by separate functional blocks in the system, but
HP recommends further isolating management trafficfromiSCSItraffic by assigning IP addresses on
different subnets and/or using VLAN tags.
The following table describes the naming protocol for each Ethernet iSCSI port.

Management ports
Two management ports are available on each MSA controller, for a total of four in a dual-controller
configuration. However, only one management port per controller can be active. By default, the active
management ports are MA0 and MB0.
During initial power-on of the MSA1510i, the default active management port (MA0 in single-controller
configurations and both MA0 and MB0 in dual-controller configurations) is automatically assigned an IP
address using DHCP. If a DHCP server is not available on the network or DHCP fails, the MSA1510i
assigns itself a private, non-routable IP address based on the emerging IETF zeroconf mechanism
(169.254.xxx.xxx). If desired, you can manually assign or change the MSA1510i active management port
IP addresses to static IP addresses, to make them easily locatable.
In dual-controller configurations, during a failover, all management tasks must be performed through
the remaining controller.
Active management port settings, including the IP address, can be viewed or reassigned using the
MSA1510i controller front-panel LCD, the HP Storage Management Utility, the MSA Command Line
Interface, or the DHCP server.
Available management services
The following services may be enabled or disabled and assigned a different TCP port number by the
MSA1510i administrator. This flexibility is provided for environments with policies in place to disable
unused services or to renumber port settings.
