Ethernet ports
The MSA1510i connects to the Ethernet network from its 2-Port Ethernet iSCSI module. There are two
1-Gb Ethernet ports on an Ethernet iSCSI module:
• Each port has two Ethernet MAC addresses: one for management traffic and one for storage traffic.
• In single-controller configurations, there are two physical Ethernet ports and potentially four MAC
addresses that the MSA1510i can use on the network.
• In dual-controller configurations, there are two MSA1510i controllers and two Ethernet iSCSI modules,
so there are potentially eight MAC addresses that the MSA1510i can use on the network.
NOTE:
The MSA1510i ships standard with a single controller and companion 2-Port Ethernet iSCSI module. As
shown in the following illustration, in dual-controller configurations, an additional controller and Ethernet
iSCSI module provide connections to a separate network switch.
1. Port 0 on the Ethernet iSCSI module for the controller in slot 1
2. Port 1 on the Ethernet iSCSI module for the controller in slot 1
3. Port 0 on the Ethernet iSCSI module for optional controller in slot 2
4. Port 1 on the Ethernet iSCSI module for optional controller in slot 2
Port names
Each physical port on the Ethernet iSCSI module has two logical ports for carrying Management and/or
iSCSI traffic. The system-defined names for the logical ports are derived from the physical port number
and the traffic type. Because each controller has two physical ports, there are four system-defined
logical ports for each controller.
