HP StorageWorks 1510i Modular Smart Array installation and user guide (383070-002, July 2008)

13. View the messages displayed on the array controller LCD panel during startup to conrm that the
rmware was installed successfully and that the array controller restarts successfully.
NOTE:
In dual-controller congurations, rmware on the two controllers is compared each time
theMSAchassisisrestarted.Iftheversionsaremismatched,thesystempromptstoclone
the rmware on the controller with the latest version over to the controller with the earlier
version rmware. (For the system to operate in a dual-controller mode, rmware on the
controllers must match.)
The following message is displayed on the LCD panel of the controller with the earlier
rmware:
07 CLONE FIRMWARE ? ‘<‘ = NO, ‘>’ = YES
Press the > button on the LCD panel to clone the rmware.Duringthecloningprocess,
informational messages are displayed on the controller LCD panels. When the cloning
process is complete, the just-updated controller automatically restarts.
Cloning controller rmware
NOTE:
Cloning is possible only in dual-controller congurations.
Each time a system with two controllers is powered on or restarted, or if a second controller is hot
plugged into a single-controller conguration, the rmware versions on the controllers are compared. If
the rmware versions on the two controllers differ, the array controller LCD panel prompts to clone the
rmware from one controller to the other controller, so that they have the same version.
The determination as to which rmware version is used is based on the following criteria:
If the MSA is being powered up or restarted with both controllers installed, the most recent version
of rmware is used, regardless of which controller it resides on.
If the MSA is already operating and an optional controller is hot plugged, then the version of rmware
that is on the original (non-hot plugged) controller is used, regardless of its version. This ensures that
any host-initiated I/O to the controller is not interrupted.
If the rmware version on the two controllers is not the same, the following prompt is displayed in the
controller LCD panel:
CLONE FIRMWARE ? ‘<‘ = NO, ‘>' = YES
If > is pressed or a response is not made to the prompt within 60 seconds, the following messages are
displayed on the LCD panel while rmware is copied from the active controller to the standby controller
and the standby controller is automatically restarted:
ROM CLONING STARTED
ARRAY CONTROLLER RESTARTING
STARTUP COMPLETE
The two controllers should now operate in redundant mode.
