Obtain the latest active/active controller firmware files (version 7.0 or later) and
firmware upgrade guide.
Go to the MSA website, and then click Software, firmware & drivers.

Back up the OS and data volumes.

Verify successful backup of OS and data volumes.

Review the latest list of supported servers, HBA models, HBA drivers, and VMware
operating system versions and patch kits as listed in the Compatibility Guide on the
MSA website:

Document and diagram the existing switch fabric configuration.

Record the World Wide Port Name (WWPN) of the Fibre Channel HBA connected to
the MSA. (This information is required to set up host connections to the MSA and to
verify the configuration after the firmware upgrade process is complete.)
With either ESX 3.0 or ESX 3.0.1, log in to the console OS using ssh. At the prompt
enter: cat /proc/scsi/adapter_name/bus_instance
The adapter_name will be the name of the Qlogic or Emulex adapter driver in the
/proc/scsi folder typicall (lpfc or qla2300).
The bus_instance is an integer number. You will find one number for each adapter
found on your system.
You can also use the MUI on ESX 2.5.3 or VI on ESX 3.0 and visiting the storage
configuration option.
