Setting Up a Controller Pair

Power Up and Establish Communication

1. Connect the computer or terminal to the controller as shown in Figure 5–1. The

connection to the computer is through the COM1 or COM2 ports.

2. Turn on the computer or terminal.

3. Apply power to the storage subsystem.

4. Configure the computer or terminal as follows:

❏ 9600 baud

❏ 8 data bits

❏ 1 stop bit

❏ no parity

5. Press Enter. A copyright notice and the CLI prompt appear, indicating that you

established a local connection with the controller.

Cabling a Controller Pair

The cabling for a controller pair is shown in Figure 5–3.

NOTE: It is a good idea to plug only the controller cables into the switch or hub. The host cables

are plugged into the or hub as part of the configuration procedure (“Configuring a Controller

Pair Using CLI,” page 5–11).
