Planning a Subsystem

Using CLI to Specify Identifier for a Unit
The command syntax for setting the identifier for a previously created unit (virtual
disk) follows:
SET UNIT_NUMBER IDENTIFIER=NN
Note: For simplicity, StorageWorks recommends that the identifier match the unit
number. For example, to set an identifier of 97 for unit D97, use the following
command:
SET D97 IDENTIFIER=97
Using SWCC to Specify LUN ID Alias for a Virtual Disk
Setting a LUN ID alias for a virtual disk is the same as setting a unit identifier. To
set LUN ID alias for a previously created virtual disk perform the following
procedure:
1. Open the storage window, where you see the properties for that virtual disk.
2. Click on the Settings Tab to see changeable properties.
3. Click on the “Enable LUN ID Alias” button.
4. Enter the LUN ID alias (identifier) in the appropriate field. It is strongly
suggested that, for simplicity, the LUN ID alias match the virtual disk number.
What is Selective Storage Presentation?
Selective Storage presentation is a feature of the HSG80 controller that enables
the user to control the allocation of storage space and shared access to storage
across multiple hosts. This is also known as Restricting Host Access.
In a subsystem that is attached to more than one host or if the hosts have more
than one adapter, it is possible to reserve certain units for the exclusive use of
certain host connections.
The default condition is ENABLE_ACCESS_PATH=ALL. This specifies that
access paths to ALL hosts are enabled. HP recommends that you restrict host
access and that the access path be carefully specified to avoid providing undesired
host connections access to the unit.
