HP StorageWorks XP Fast Recovery Solution administration guide: Windows Server 2003 (B9552-96004, September 2005)

FRS runs but produces no results
If the FRS GUI runs and recognizes the recovery LUNs but will not make
shadow copies or perform recoveries, check the following:
1. Ensure the HP Business Copy license and the HP VSS Hardware
Provider were installed and correctly configured.
A simple way to verify the HP VSS HWP is installed correctly, is to
see if it is running. At the command line, enter:
vssadmin list providers
Look for the HP VSS HWP in the resulting list.
2. Check Cluster Administrator and verify resources are online.
3. Check that the Exchange server is online. Check that the Exchange
server can access the data LUNs via My Computer.
4. Check for mount points found under the FRS directory. All databases
under the selected storage group must be in a mounted state.
5. Check configuration as explained in Chapter 2 Configuration:
(A) Check Command View XP server and FRS production and
recovery server connectivity and communication. Use the ping
command to check communication. If communication fails, check
LAN priority in the Network Connections control panel Advanced
Settings window on all servers, and also check Windows
Distributed COM settings as explained in Microsoft’s
documentation.
(B) Production/recovery servers not connected to the SAN correctly.
(C) Firewall between the Command View XP management station and
the production/recovery servers. If you are receiving shadow copy
timeout errors, this is the likely cause.
6. In order for the production and recovery servers and their applications
to communicate, the Windows DCOM distributed communication
process must be able to communicate among all production and
recovery servers. This requires that you be logged into all FRS-related
applications and all FRS servers (including Command View XP) as an
administrator and requires an open firewall between servers. You can
check for DCOM errors in the system event logs.
