HP disk arrays
To use the XP array with VSS and HP HWP for backup and recovery, you
preconfigure it to contain a number of production volumes where Microsoft
Exchange stores original data. You also configure a set of recovery
volumes where volume shadow copies of the production volumes are
stored.
When FRS requests a shadow copy, VSS, the VSS HWP, and the XP array
work together to create a copy of the production volumes and place it on the
recovery volumes. The copy on the recovery volumes is a point-in-time
copy that is not sychronized to the original.
If storage groups on the production volumes become damaged, FRS can be
used to perform a recovery. A recovery replaces the data on the production
volumes with a known-good copy from the recovery volumes. This brings
the recovered production database up to the date and time of the recovery
copy. Transaction logs may then be replayed to bring the recovered
production database fully up to date.
