Configuring the EVM Network
Refresh rate is also dependent on how busy the HSG and HSV element managers
are. If, for example, the element manager is in the process of doing a
resource-intensive function, it will be less responsive and EVM discovery will be
slower.
By default, EVM refreshes the storage configuration information displayed by the
GUI on a periodic interval equal to 5 minutes times the number of storage
systems, or every 15 minutes, whichever is greater. For example, a configuration
with 10 storage systems has a default refresh rate of every 50 minutes. This
default value can be overridden through a user-defined, selectable refresh rate.
To establish a refresh rate manually, access the GUI Options page. From the EVM
Configuration page, choose the Available Storage tab and locate the Refresh Rate
section.
Detect Storage Properties
A manual refresh-on-demand allows a manual storage refresh to be performed at any
time. This feature is available only from the EVM Resources page. To initiate the
detect:
1. Right-click in any open area of the upper or lower pane and choose Refresh.
2. Right-click in any open area of the upper or lower left panes of the EVM
Resources page to display the Redraw Resource Diagrams and Detect Storage
Properties options.
Clicking Detect Storage Properties causes EVM to refresh storage system
information without waiting for the next automatic refresh.
NOTE: Clicking Redraw Resource Diagrams causes EVM to refresh the EVM Resources
page from cached information.
Element Manager Requirements
The EVM element manager provides access to the StorageWorks storage system and
is the interface to the HSG or HSV SAN network. The required element manager for
EVM is included in the Management Appliance with the OSM January 2002 Update.
To determine whether you already have the update, browse to the Management
Appliance and navigate to the OSM Home Page. If you do have the OSM January
2002 Update, the title bar in the Content pane contains the designation Open SAN
Manager V1.0C. If the title bar specifies any other version, you do not have the OSM
January 2002 Update.
