EVM Jobs and Job Management
NOTE: EVM now supports demand allocated (space efficient), fully allocated (standard), and
snapclone snapshots on HSV-based storage systems. Refer to the online Help/User Guide for
details regarding these snap operations.
Windows 2000 EVM Jobs with SQL Server 2000
EVM job operations that interact with SQL Server 2000 must call a special utility,
DButil.exe. DButil is required to safely replicate SQL SERVER 2000 volumes or
apply transaction logs during recovery.
DButil Utility Commands
The utility includes the following commands:
• -pre, which suspends normal operations. Writes may be submitted to the database,
but are queued. Queued transactions are automatically rolled forward when writes
are resumed.
While write-suspended, users are not logged out of the database and active
transactions continue. Read access is unaffected and read requests are processed
normally.
• -post, which resumes normal write operations. Queued transactions are
committed and writes to the database continue normally.
• -restoresns, which puts the database into a loading state, allowing transaction logs
to be applied.
Suspend Purpose. Execute a specified suspend (temporary stop)
operation on a specific host.
Output. User application is suspended on the specific host.
Remarks. Place the
suspend command inside double
quotes, since this command may contain spaces and
special characters.
Undo Purpose. Initiate automatic undo at the end of a job.
Output. Job is undone.
Wait Until Purpose. Pause until a specified date and time.
Output. User application is suspended on the specified host
and is resumed at the specified date and time.
