e2400-FC 4G Fibre Channel Interface Controller User Guide 13
FC interface controller benefits
The FC interface controller is designed to work with industry leading data protection applications
and complement information life cycle management (ILM) storage strategies through a range of
advanced features supporting enterprise class performance, security, and system monitoring for
improved use and management of storage resources. Benefits include:
• Easy integration within existing FC architectures—The FC interface controller includes six FC
ports, individually configurable for 1, 2, or 4 GB/s speeds.
• Added intelligence for storage management—The FC interface controller has many features
that provide intelligence to FC devices and help manage SAN configurations, performance,
and reliability, including dynamic storage allocation (map activation without reboot) and
access controls (LUN masking and management). These features provide customers with a high
level of storage functionality for high performance backup and recovery, reliability, security,
and manageability in their Nearline storage solutions.
• Enterprise class performance—The FC interface controller offers enterprise class performance
for tape storage resources. The FC interface controller offers optimized performance for fast
tape reads and writes and is capable of handling larger data sets while completing backup
and restore tasks within a smaller time frame. Advanced functionality further enhances tape
streaming performance by using buffers to reduce latency between the implementation of tape
write commands. The optimized performance provided by the FC interface controller includes
error recovery and data path conditioning to ensure reliable data movement.
• Ease of use to reduce SAN management costs and complexity—The FC interface controller
features advanced system monitoring of hosts, drives and media. The FC interface controller is
easy to install and easy to configure using the Interface Manager card and Command View TL.
