Rising/Falling Thresholds
A rising/falling threshold has only one boundary, and a value is tracked as to whether it is on the
desired side of that boundary (see Figure 3). An event will register when the counter value exceeds a
boundary from a desired range. Rising/falling thresholds are typically used for rate-based counters.

Change Monitor Threshold
A change monitor threshold does not have a range, and instead generates events whenever a counter
value changes. This type of threshold typically is used to indicate state changes, such as zoning
changes. Figure 4 shows an example of change monitor threshold state changes in an event log.
