Application Notes – Fabric Watch Monitoring in a DRM Environment 37
NL_Port
Node Loop Port. A node port that has arbitrated loop capabilities. Used to connect an equipment port
to the fabric in a loop configuration through an FL_Port.
SAN
Storage area network. A network of systems and storage devices that communicate using Fibre
Channel protocol.
SFP
Small form factor pluggable. An optical transceiver used to convert signals between optical fiber
cables and switches.
SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol. A widely used network monitoring and control Internet
management protocol. SNMP enables network administrators to manage network performance, find
and solve network problems, and plan for network growth.
SNMP agent
A software routine that waits in the background and performs an action when a specified event occurs.
The agent collects data stored in the MIB and prepares information for the management station.
switch port
A port on a switch. Switch ports can be E_Ports, F_Ports, or FL_Ports.
threshold
The set of monitored information for each SAN element. A threshold is a value or range of values to
which Fabric Watch compares a behavior counter to determine if the behavior value is correct or
should generate an alarm.
trap (SNMP)
The message sent by an SNMP agent to inform the SNMP management station of an exception
condition that exceeds a threshold.
UDP
User Datagram Protocol. A protocol that runs on top of IP and provides port multiplexing for
upper-level protocols.
U_Port
Universal port. A port waiting to become some other type of port.
