Fabric Watch Monitoring in a DRM Environment - Application Notes

Notable Events to Monitor with DRM
34 Application Notes Fabric Watch Monitoring in a DRM Environment
Monitoring Security Changes to the Fabric
Several events can be monitored to help ensure fabric security. These most likely will take the form of
a counter value change in a threshold setting. Examples of these are fabric logins, zone changes, and
devices that attempt to log into the fabric. If your fabric is zoned, then limiting configuration changes
to specific, trusted individuals will help to quickly determine whether changes are coming from a
known source.
Monitoring fabric reconfigurations, domain ID and zone changes, and fabric logins are all done by
setting the Fabric Thresholds. Figure 18 shows the Fabric Thresholds screen that is accessed through
Web Tools, and Table 6 gives a description of all the settings on the Fabric Thresholds screen. Use the
following procedure to monitor these settings:
1. Click the Fabric class.
2. Click the Configure Thresholds tab.
3. Click the box for Fabric Re-configured.
4. In the threshold type dropdown list, select Changed.
5. Click Apply. The Alarm Mechanism screen is displayed (see Figure 12).
6. Select the boxes for the desired methods of alarm notification (for example, SNMP Trap and
Email).
7. Click Apply.
Perform the above procedure three more times, each time subsequently changing the box clicked in
step 3 to Domain ID Changed, Zone Changed, and Fabric Logins.
