Installation Tasks
Task 1: Verify Installation Requirements
Verify the following requirements are met prior to switch and
SANpilot interface installation. Ensure:
A site plan is prepared, configuration planning tasks are
complete, planning considerations are evaluated, and related
planning checklists are complete. Refer to McDATA Products in a
SAN Environment - Planning Manual (626-000124) for information.
Storage area network (SAN), director, fabric switch, and Fibre
Channel arbitrated loop (FC-AL) device connectivity are
evaluated, and the related planning worksheet is complete. Refer
to the McDATA Products in a SAN Environment - Planning Manual
(626-000124) for information.
A browser-capable PC and Internet connectivity is available to
support switch management through the SANpilot interface.
Support equipment and technical personnel are available for the
installation.
The required number and type of fiber-optic jumper cables are
delivered and available. Ensure the cables are the correct length
with the required connectors.
A customer-supplied 19-inch equipment rack and associated
hardware are available (optional).
Remote workstations or simple network management protocol
(SNMP) workstations are available (optional). Workstations
are customer-supplied and connected through a corporate or
dedicated LAN.
Task 2: Unpack, Inspect, and Install the Switch
The following paragraphs provide instructions to unpack and inspect
one or more Sphereon 4300 Switches, and install the switches in a
desktop or rack-mount configuration.
If the switch is delivered as part of an FC-512 Fabricenter equipment
cabinet, refer to the McDATA FC-512 Fabricenter Equipment Cabinet
Installation and Service Manual (620-000100) for instructions. Go to
Task 3: Configure the Switch at the SANpilot Interface on page 2-6.
