5Congurin g Storage Systems and
Logical Paths
Reviewing S ystem Conguration Tasks
To introduce Continuous Access Journal into your system and congure your system for remote copy
operations, you must consider which data s hould be co pied from which storage system to which storage
system. The storage system containing the data to b e copied to another storage system is referred to as
the
primary storage system. The storage system to which data is copied from another storage system
is
referred to as the secondar y storage system. The plac e where the primary storage system exists is
referred to as the primary site. The place where the secondary storage system exists is referre d to
as
the secondary site.
When performing system congurations for remote copy operations, the primary site administrator and
the
secondary site administrator must do the following:
The primary site administrator must congure some of the por ts on the p rimary storage system
to
connect hosts. The primary site adm inistrator must also con gure other p orts on the p rimary
storage system to com municate with remote storage systems.
The secondary site administrator must congure some ports on the secondary storage system to
communicate with the primary storage system.
After nishing the port congurations, the primary and secondary site administrators must
congure logical paths between the communications ports on the primary site and the
communications ports on the secondary site, so that the two storage systems can communicate
with each other.
When per forming system cong urations, the adm inistrators must do the following:
Display the DKC Operation window (see DKC Operation Window”onpage85)
Congure port at tributes (see Conguring Port Attributes on page 96)
Associate the primary and the secondary storage systems and
congure logical paths between the two storage systems (see
Establishing the Relationship between Primary and Secondary Storage Systems (Add DKC) on page 98)
When performing system congurations, the administrator should do the following when necessary:
Change options for logical paths and storage systems (see
Changing Options for Logical Pa ths and Storage Systems on page 101)
Add logical paths (see Adding Logical Paths”onpage102)
Delete lo g ical paths (see D eleting Logical Paths”onpage105)
Display status of log ical p a ths (see Viewing the Status of Logical Paths on page 103)
Delete the relationship between the p rimary and the secondary storage systems (see
Removing the Relationship Between the Primary and the Seconda ry Storag e Systems on page 108)
Note
: Throughout this chapter, the primary and the secondary storage systems are sometimes referred to
as local
storage systems or remote storage systems. If you are logged into the primary storage system
and
are using Continuous Access Journal, the primary storage system is a local storage system a nd the
secondary storage system is a remote storage system. If you are logged into the secondar y storage
system and a re using Continuous Access Journal, the secondary storage system is a local storage system
and
the primary storage system is a remote storage system.
Note
: When performing system congurations, the a dm inistrator a lso needs to con gure journal groups.
For detailed information about con guring journal groups, see Using Journal Groups on page 111.
