Hitachi TrueCopy for IBM z/OS User and Reference Guide (T5211-96001, June 2007)

8-2 Troubleshooting
Hitachi Universal Storage Platform V TrueCopy for IBM z/OS User’s Guide
General Troubleshooting
In the unlikely event of a problem with the USP V Storage Navigator software,
first make sure that the problem is not being caused by the PC or Ethernet
hardware or software, and try restarting the PC. Exiting the Storage Navigator
software does not affect TrueCopy for z/OS operations already in progress.
Note: Use the FD Dump Tool (refer to the Storage Navigator User’s Guide) to
copy the USP V Storage Navigator configuration information onto diskette, and
give the diskette(s) to Hitachi service personnel.
Note: For important information about proper configuration for your
operational environment.
Table 8-1 provides general troubleshooting information for TCz. Table 8-2
provides troubleshooting information for RCU paths. Table 8-3 and Table 8-4
provide troubleshooting information for suspended TCz pairs. For
troubleshooting information on PPRC and P/DAS operations, please refer to the
IBM PPRC and P/DAS user documentation: Planning for IBM Remote Copy
(SG24-2595), Advanced Copy Services (SC35-0355), and DFSMS MVS V1
Remote Copy Guide and Reference (SC35-0169).

Error Corrective Action
The USP V Storage Navigator software hangs,
or TCz operations do not function properly.
Make sure that all TCz requirements and restrictions are met (e.g.,
track format, LVI, VOLSER, DFW).
Make sure the MCU and RCU are powered on and fully operational (NVS,
cache, DFW). Refer to the User and Reference Guide for operational and
troubleshooting information.
Check all input values and parameters to make sure you entered the
correct information on the TrueCopy for z/OS windows (e.g., RCU S/N
and SSID, path parameters, M-VOL and R-VOL IDs).
If any channel enable LED indicators (USP V
control panel) are off or flashing.
Please call the Hitachi Support Center for assistance.
The pairs and/or RCUs are not displaying
correctly.
Make sure that the correct CU is selected.
An R-SIM warning is displayed on the USP V
Storage Navigator.
Locate the SIM (see the Storage Navigator User’s Guide for
instructions). Please contact the Hitachi Support Center for further
information on SIMs.
A TCz error message is displayed on the
Storage Navigator.
Resolve the specified error condition, and then try the TCz operation
again.
There is a problem with the Storage Navigator
or TCz software.
Make sure that the problem is not the PC or LAN hardware or
software. Try restarting the PC and reconnecting to the storage
system.
The RCU path status is not normal. Check the path status (RCU Status dialog box) and see Table 8-2.
The pair status is suspended. Check the detailed pair status (Detailed Information dialog box) and
see Table 8-3 and Table 8-4 for suspend types and corrective action
for suspended TCz pairs.
