Business Copy
Business Copy volumes can be assigned to Continuous Access pairs, and Continuous Access volumes
can be assigned to Business Copy pairs.

ess and Business Copy can be used together in the same storage system and on the same
volumes to prov
ide multiple copies of data at the primary and/or remote sites. Table 11 on page 36
describes the
host pair status reporting for Continuous Access volumes, Business Copy volumes, a nd
Continuous Ac
cess/Business Copy shared volumes.
Table 12 on page 36 shows the currency of the data on a shared Continuous Access/Business Copy
volume based on Continuous Access and Business Copy pair status.

Note: Business Copy is rec omm ende d for intra-storage system copy operations. If Business Copy is not
installed, C
ontinuous Access (Synchronous only) can be used to copy within the same storage system.
This configur
ation requires at least one fibre cable loop.
• For shared Continuous Access/Business Copy volumes, the Continuous Access pair status is
reported to the host if you query the Continuous Access P-VOL or S-VOL. To obtain the Business
Copy pair st
atus, query the P-VOL of the Business Copy pair.
• Business Copy supports multiple S-VOLs for each P-VOL. If you issue a pa ir status query to a
Business Copy P-VOL (for example, D etail), the status for only one Business Copy pair is reported
(the
pair w
ith
the S-VOL with the lowest LDEV ID). To obtain the pa ir status for the Business
Copy pair(s) with the other S-VOL(s), you must direct the host query to the specificS-VOL using
the S-VOL’s LDEV ID in the host command. The Business Copy software displays the por t, GID
(host group number), LUN, LDEV ID, and Business Copy pair status of all S-VOLs associ ated
with a P-V
OL.
