HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96002, June 2007)

Note:
To recover the data from a disaster, you must prep a re the RCU-MCU paths in addition to the
usual MCU-RCU paths. For more information on the path settings between an MCU a nd RCU, see
Adding an RCU on page 71.
When you set the RCU-MCU path, you must also specify:
the same co m bination of CUs when you set the MCU -RCU path if you set the MCU-RCU path
when specifying the CU.
CU Free if yo u set the MCU-RCU path when specifying CU Free.
For more information on the preparation of disaster recovery, see
Using Continuous Access for Disaster Recovery Operations on page 127.
Initiator Ports and RCU Target Ports
The initiator por ts are the dedicated Fibre Channel interface ports on the main storage system (MCU)
to
which the R
CUs (RCU target ports) a re c onnected. The initiator ports c onnect to the RCUs to send
write I/O op
erations directly to the RCUs. Any Fibre Channel inter face port of the storage system can be
congured a
s
an initiator port. The Continuous Access software allows you to change the conguration
of
the stor
age
system’s Fibre Channel p orts (ordinary target port, initiator por t, or RCU target por t) as
needed (se
e“Conguring theHostInterface Ports on page 70).
Note:
Two o
r
more initiator ports must be con gured before you can add the RCUs and create the
Continuous Access pairs. The initiator ports cannot communicate with the host processor channels. To
enable the host processor channels to send write I/O operations to the MCU, the host channel paths must
be
connec
ted to the other Fibre Channel interface ports in the MCU. Ordinary Fibre Channel interface
ports cannot be connected to the MCU. These ports (usually called target ports) can be connected
to the host processor channels only.
The RCU ta
rget ports are the dedicated Fibre Channel interface ports on the remote storage system (RCU)
to
which
the
MCU (initiator ports) are connected. Any Fibre Channel interface port on the storage
system c
an be
congured as an RCU target por t. The RCU target ports can be connected to the host
channel paths via the Fibre Channel switch.
Storage System Continuous Access Remote Web Console Software
The storage system’s Remote Web Console Java application includes Continuous Access and TrueCopy
for Mainframe for the storage system. The Remote Web Console software communicates with the SVP of
the
storage system via dened TCP/IP connections. For further information on Remote Web Console
operations, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Remote Web Console User’s Guide or contact your HP
service representative.
If you plan to perform Continuous Access operations using RAID Manager, you must use the Continuous
Access software to ad d the consistency groups and select the desired group options and async options
before you can add any Continuous Access pairs. These functions can only be performed using the
Continuous Access software. Once the consistency groups and async options have been congu red, the
RAID Manager software can be used to establish and manage Continuous Access pairs.
If youwillbeusing theRemote Web Consolesoftwaretoperform Continuous Access operations (not RAID
Manager), the MCU of each Continuous Access pair must be LAN-attached to the Remote Web Console
computer. You should also a t tach all RCUs to a Remote We b Console computer on a separate LAN at the
remote site. Having a separate storage system LAN at the remote site enables you to access the RCUs and
Continuous Access S-VOLs and perform Continuous Access operations at the remote site in the event that
the
main site is not available (for example, due to disaster). If you need to perform Continuous Access
operations in the reverse direction from the remote site to the primary site (for example, disaster recovery) ,
the
storage system’s Continuous Access software at the remote site s implies and expedites this process.
Note:
If the Remote Web Console computer is not installed, contact your HP service representative for
information on Continuous Access conguration services.
