HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96002, June 2007)

pair in each c onsistency group.
Caution:
Do not use this option when releasing pairs at the
RCU during a disaster recovery.
Note:
If you release (pairsplit-S) the Continuous Access Asynchronous pair from the RCU
with the Group option, while the P-VOL continues accepting I/Os, the Continuous Access
Asynchronous pair is forcibly suspended. This suspend is due to the S-VOL failure (not
user-requested). This status is temporary, and will change to SMPL nally. In this case, it is
possible that all pending recordsets are not settled.
C/T (RCU only): The RCU will release all Continuous Access Asynchronous pairs which have
the
consistency status of group.
LU (MCU or RCU): The MCU/RCU will release only the specied Continuous Access
Asynchronous pair(s). This option can be used to remove individual LUs from consistency
groups.
Note:
For the LU delete range setting, if you select pairs with PAIR status and other
than PAIR status in the same consistency group, an unexpected suspend m ay occur during the
pair operations (Pairsplit-r, Pairsplit-S, and Pairresync) under heavy I/O load conditions. You
can estimate whether or not the I/O load is heavy from the rate of the sidele cache (around
30%) or, if you cannot see the s idele cacherate, from thefrequency of host I/O. Therelease
pair operations should b e performed under light I/O load conditions.
The default delete range settings are:
Two or more pairs in a group are selected: LU.
One pair is selected in each group and one or m ore P-VOLs are selected: Group.
One pair is selected in each group and all selected volumes are S-VOLs: C/T.
Note:
When the Delete Pair By Force option is selected for an asynchrono us pair, the Delete
Range option is set to Group to protect the i nteg rity of the consistency group. This ensures that
one or more pairs in a cons istency group cannot be forcibly released.
To release one or more Continuous Access pairs:
1. Connect to the MCU or RCU* of the p air(s) to be released, open the Continuous Access main
window, and click the Pair Operation tab.
*
Note:
If you plan to use the C/T Delete Range option, you must connect to the RCU.
2. In the tree, select a port, host group, desired CU, or upper CU grouping. Use the
Display Filter as needed to display the desired pairs (for example, select Async only) (see
Display Filter on page 103).
3. In the list, select the pair(s) that you want to release.
Select either Continuous Acc ess Synchronous or Continuous Access Asynchronous pairs (not
both) . If you plan to use the C/T or G roup delete range option, select only one Continuous
Access A synchronous pair in the group.
4. Right-click, and click Pairsplit-S to open the Pairsplit-S dialog box (see Figure 5 2 on page 121).
5. On the Pairsplit-S dialog box, select the desired pairrelease options, and click Set to close the
Pairsplit-S dialog box. The preview list displays the requested pairsplit-S operation(s).
6. Verify therequested operation(s) in thepreview list. Makesurethat the pairreleaseoptions
for each pair are correct.
To change one or m ore operations, select the operation(s) from the preview list, right-click, and
click Modify. To remove one or m ore operations, select the operation(s) from the preview list,
right-click, and click Delete. To cancel all operations, select all the operations in the preview list,
right-click, and click the Delete command, or click the Cancel button.
7. To start the operation(s), click the Apply button.
If one
or more operation(s) did not start normally, the preview list displays only the operation(s)
that
did not start normally. An error code is displayed in the Error Code column in the preview
list. To display an error message, select one LU, right-click, a nd click Error Detail. After you see
the
error message, click OK button to close the error message.
8. On the Pair Operation window, verify that the pairsplit-S operations are c ompleted successfully
(SMPL or Deleting and then SMPL status, not PSUE). To monitor the pro gress of the pairsplit-S
operation(s), click Refresh to update the information in the list, or use the Detailed Information
dialog box (see Viewing Continuous Access Pair Status on page 1 1 2) to monitor the detailed
status of each pair.
