HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96002, June 2007)

WARNING:
Do not use the P-VOL failure suspend kind option if the P-VOL is required for system
operation. Make sure to use the S-VOL suspend kind option, so that the P-VOL continues
accepting
I/Os.
7. To start the operation(s) , click the Apply button.
If one
or more o peration(s) did not start normally, the preview list displays only the operation(s)
that
did not start normally. An error code is displayed in the Error Code column in the preview
list
(see Figure 50 on pa ge 115). To display an error message, select o ne LU, right-click, and
click Error D etail. After you see the error message, click OK but ton to close the error message.
For Continuous Access Synchronous pairs, the MCU will co mplete all P-VOL write operations
in
progress and the associated update copy opera tions at the S-VOL before splitting the pair,
so that the pair is synchronized at the time of pairsplit. For Continuous Access Asynchronous
pairs, the pending update option (drain o r purge) determines whether the p air is synchronized
at the
time of pairsplit.
8. On the Pair Operation window, verify that the pairsplit operations are completed successfully
(PSUS status in the list). To mon itor the progress of the pairsplit operation(s), click Refresh
to update the information in the list, or use the Detailed Information dialog box (see
Viewing Continuous Access Pair Status on page 1 12) to monitor the detailed status of each
pair.
Resynchro
nizing Continuous Access Pairs
While a Con
tinuous Access pair is split or suspended, the MCU does not perform any update copy
operations to the S-VOL.
For a split/suspended Continuous Access Synchronous pair, the MCU may or may not
continue
accepting
write I/Os for the P-VO L depending on the P-VOL fence level pair option
(see Pai
rOptions on page 110) and s uspend kind pairsplit option (if user-requested) (see
Splitting Continuous Access Pairs on page 114).
For a split/suspended Continuous Access Asynchronous pair, the MCU and RCU keep track of
any reco
rdsets that were discarded during a pairsplit/suspension, and the MCU continues to
accept w
rite I/Os for the P-VOL. The MCU records the data in the P-VO L tracks that are updated
while the pa ir is split/suspended as differential data.
If the RCU accepts write I/Os for a split S-VOL (S-VOL write enable pairsplit option) , the RCU re cords
the
dat
a
in the S-VO L tracks that are updated as differential data. When the split/suspended pair is
resynchronized, the MCU compares the differential data of P-VOL and S-VOL to determine the out-of-sync
tracks.
The Pai
rresync dialog box (see Figure 51 on page 118) allows you to resynchronize split and suspended
Continuous Access pairs and select the pairresync options. To open the Pairresync dialog box, click the
Pair Operation tab, select a C U grouping, CU, port, or host group from the tree, select the desired pair,
right-click, and then click Pairresync command.
