HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96002, June 2007)

10. To start the opera tion(s), click the Apply button.
The MCU will start the initial copy operations according to the initial copy priority and the
maximum initial copy activities setting on the System Option window .
If one
or more o peration(s) did not start normally, the preview list displays only the operation(s)
that
did not star t normally. An error code is displayed on the Error Code column in the preview
list. To display an error message, select one LU, right-click, and click Error Detail. After you see
the error message, click the OK button to close the err or message.
1 1. On the Pair Operation window, verify that the paircreate operations are displayed correctly
(COPY status) in the list. To monitor the progress of the paircre ate operation(s), click File,
and
then Refresh on the menu bar of the Remote Web Console main window to update the
information in the list, or use the Detailed Information dialog box (see Figure 49 on page 1 13)
to monitor the detailed status of each pair.
Note:
If an error occurs, you can display the error m essage by right-clicking on the operation,
and
clicking the Error D etail command.
Note:
The Paircreate operation will be rejected if the P-VOL is in the correction access or
correction copy state. If this occurs, wait for the volume state to change, and then repeat this
procedure. If the status is not displaying correctly, make sure that the correct CU is selected. See
General Troubleshooting on page 135 for information on troubleshooting suspended pairs.
Initial Co
py
Options
When you cr
eate
new Continuous Access pairs, you select the initial co py options on the Paircreate
dialog box. After a pair has been created (that is, the paircreate operation has started) , you cannot
change the initial copy options u nless you release and then restart the pair.
Initial Copy:Species the initial co py mod e for the new pair(s) (default = Entire Volume):
Entire Vo
lume: The initial copy op eration will copy all tracks on the P-VOL (except diagnostic
and
unassigned alternate tracks) to the S-VOL.
None: The initial copy operation will not be per formed. The MCU will begin performing update
copy ope
rationsasneeded.
WARNING:
The user must ensure that the P-VOL and S-VOL are
already identical when using this setting.
Copy Pace:Species the maximum number of tracks (1-15) that can be copied at one time by the
Continuous Access initial copy operation before the MCU accepts another host request for that P-VOL
(defaul
t =
15). A high setting (for example, 1 5 tracks) speed s up the initial copy operation but may a ffect
the
sto
rage system’s I/O performance if the P-VOL is experiencing high write I/O activity. A lower setting
(for ex
ample, 3 tracks) slows down the initial copy operation to minimize the impact of the initial copy
operation on the storage system’s I/O performance.
Priority:Species the order in which the initial copy o perations will be performed, if the number of
requested initial copy operations is greater than the maximum initial copy activity setting on the System
Option window (see Changing the Option Settings of Storage System on page 93). The highest priority
is 1, and the lowest priority is 256 (current default = 32) . The Continuous Access initial copy priority
opti
on can
be used to spread initial copy operations across array groups a nd/or array d omains (DKA
pair
s)
to reduce initial copy time as well as host I/O contention.
Difference management:Species the measurem ent method tha t Continuous Access will use to manage
the
differential data for the pair: auto, cylinder, or track. The default setting is Auto. When you select
Auto, either Cylinder or Track is selected depending on the basic size of the logical unit (LU). See
Difference Managem ent on page 20 for further information on this option.
Example: If the maximum initial copy activity setting is four, and you create six pairs at the same time (for
LU Ns 000 through 005), the initial copy priority is set as follows:
