HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Journal Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96001, June 2007)
• The storage system must have a volume used a s both a Continuous Access Synchronous
primary volume and a Continuous Access Journal primary data volume.
• The storage system must have a Continuous Access Journal master journal volume.
• Storage system at the Continuous Access Synchronous secondar y s ite:
• The storage system must have Continuous Access Synchronous installed.
• The storage system must have Continuous Access Journal installed.
• The storage system must have a Continuous Access Synchronous secondary volume.
Note:
This volume might be used as a Continuous Access Journal primary data
volume when disaster recovery is performed at the primary site. For details, see
“Recovering from a Disaster at the Primary Site in a 3DC Multi-Target Configuration” on page 147.
• The storage system must have a Continuous Access Journal m aster journal volume.
Note:
This
volume might be necessary for creating a Continuous Access Journal pair when d isaster
recovery is performed at the primary site
• Storage system at th e Continuous Access Journal secondary site:
• The storage system must have Continuous Access Journal installed.
• The storage system must have a Continuous Access Journal secondary data volume.
• The storage system must have a Continuous Access Journal restore journal volume.
Setup Procedure
This section explains the procedure for setting up a 3D C multi-target configuration using Continuous
Access Synchronous and Continuous Access Journal.
To set up a
3DC
multi-target configuration:
1. Install
Continuous Access Synchronous a nd Continuous Access Journal. Configure the por ts and
journal
groups. Journal groups must be config ured for the storage systems at the three sites.
2. At the primary site, create a Continuous Access Synchronous pair.
3. Wait until the status of the Continuous Access Synchronous pair becomes PAIR.
4. At the p
rimary site, create a Continuous Access Journal pair.
When
creating a Continuous Access Journal pa ir, be sure to select a value from 1 to 3 as the
mirror ID.
5. Wait un
til
the status of the Continuous Access Journal pair becomes PAIR.
For detailed information about installing and using Continuous Access Synchronous, see H P StorageWorks
XP24000 Continuous Access Software User and Reference Guide.
For detailed information about Continuous Access Journal journal group configurations, see
“Journal Group Operations” on page 28. For detailed information about port configurations, see
“Configuring Port Attributes” on page 96.
Changing to a 3DC Multi-tar get Configurati on after Recovering from Primary Site Failures
If you follow the instructions in
“Recovering from a Disaster at the Primary S ite in a 3DC Multi-Target Configuration” on page 147
and then the system does not change to a 3DC cascading con fig uration, you c a n change
the
system to a 3DC multi-target con fi guration after removing failures from the primary site
and
other locations. In the resulting 3DC multi-target con figuration, the former Continuous
Access secondary volume will be the primary volume.
To change the system to a 3DC multi-target configuration:
1. Use RAID Manager to release the former Continuous Access Journal pair.
2. If pair resynchronization has n ot been performed to reverse the primary/secondary relationship
of a Continuous Access Synchronous pair (that is, if the pair is suspended), use R AID Ma n ager
to resynchronize the pair, so that the primary/secondary relationship will be reversed.
