HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Journal Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96001, June 2007)
To perform LUSE operations on primary or secondary data volumes in an existing Continuous Access
Journal pair, you must delete the pair first to return the volumes to SMPL status. For detailed information
about LUN Expansion (LUSE), see HP StorageWorks XP24000 LUN Expans ion User’s Guide.
Virtual L UN
You can perform Virtual LUN operations on primary and secondar y data volumes in Continuous Access
Journal pairs. If you need to perform Virtual LUN operations on a Continuous Access Journal primary
data volume or
secondary data volume, you must delete the pair fi rst to return the volume to SMPL status.
When creating a Continuous Access Journal pair consisting of two Virtual LUN volumes, make sure that
the
primary data volume and secondary data volumes have the same capacity.
Cache Residency Manager
You can perform Cache Residency Manager operations on Continuous Access Journal primary data
volumes and secondary data volumes.
LUN Manager
LUN Manager
operations do not affect Continuous Access Journal operations. Volumes which are
under
secur
e
ports and/or which a re assigned to host groups can also be assigned to Continuous
Access Journal pairs. Volumes which are assigned to Continuous Access Journal pairs can be protected
by LUN Manager.
Note:
Conti
nuous Access Journal secondary data volumes cannot be accessed by a UNIX or PC server
host except when the pair is split.
Business Copy
Continuous Access Journal and Business Copy can be used together in the same storage system and on
the
same volumes to provide multiple copies of data at the primary and/or remote sites.
Table 18 on page 54 describes the h ost pair status reporting for Continuous Access Journal
volumes, Business Copy volumes, and Continuous Access Journal/Business Copy shared volumes.
Table 19 on page 54 s hows the currency of the data on a shared Continuous Access Journal/Business
Copy volume based on the Continuous Access Journal and Business Copy pair status.
• For shared Continuous Access Journal/Business Copy volumes, the Continuous Access Journal
pair
status is reported to the host if you query the Continuous Access Journal primary data
volume or secondary data volume. To obtain the Business Copy pair status, quer y the P-VOL
of
the Business Copy pair.
• Business Copy supports multiple S-VOLs for each P-VOL. If you issue a pair status query for a
Business Copy P-VOL (for example, pairdisplay), the status for only on e Business Copy pair is
reported (the pair with the S-VOL with the lowest LD EV ID). To obtain the pair status for Business
Copy pair(s) with the other S-VOL(s), you must direct the host quer y to the specificS-VOL using the
S-VOL’s L DEV ID in the host command. The Business Copy remote console software displays the
port, GID, LUN, LDEV I D, and Business Copy pair status for all S-VOLs associated with a P-VOL.
