• A computer that runs Remote Web Console (Remote Web Console computer):
The Remote Web Console software is required for storage system Continuous Access Journal
operations. The Continuous Access Journal remote console software is a component of the
storage system Remote Web Console product. The Continuous Access Journal license key(s)
are required to enable the Continuous Access Journal option(s) on the storage system (see
“Enabling the Continuous Access Journal Option” on page 50). Separate license keys are
required for each storage system. For further information on Remote Web Console operations,
see
the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Remote Web Console User’s Gu ide or contact your HP
service representative.
Note:
Administrator or Continuous Access Journal write access to the Remote Web Console
software is required to perform Continuous Access Journal o perations. Users without Administrator
or
Continuous Access Journal write access can o nly view Continuous Access Journal information.

• ConnectionwithanHPXP12000 Disk Array
Continuous Access Journal can execute remote copy operations by conne cting an HP XP24000
Disk
Array with an HP XP12000 Disk Array. Specifically, the following c onfigurations are
supported.
•System configuration for remote copy operation using Continuous Access Journal from an HP
XP24000 Disk Array to an HP XP12000 Disk Array.
•System configuration for remote copy operation using Continuous Access Journal from an HP
XP12000 Disk Array to an HP XP24000 Disk Array.
Note:
For detailed information about the connection with an HP XP12000 Disk Array, see
Performing Remote Copy Between an HP XP12000 Disk Array and an HP XP24000 Disk Array
on page 74.
One-to-One Volume Copy Operations
Continuous Access Journal requires a one-to-one relationship between the volumes of the volume pairs. A
volume (LU) can only be assigned to one Continuous Access Journal pair at a time.
Note:
Con
tinuous Access Journal does not s upport operations in which one primary da ta volume is
copied to more than one secondary data volumes or more than one primary data volume is copied to
one
secondary data volume.
Because C
ontinuous Access Journal operates on volumes rather than on files, multivolume files require
special attention. For complete duplication and recovery of a multivolume file (for example, a large
database file which spans several volumes), make sure that all the volumes of the file are copied to a
Continuous Access Journal secondary data volume, an d use Continuous Access Journal to ensure update
sequenc
e
consistency across this group of secondary data volumes.
