HP StorageWorks XP24000 Continuous Access Journal Software User and Reference Guide, v01 (T5278-96001, June 2007)

Access Journal allows you to specify the secondar y storage system from the connected primary storage
system. Continuous Access Journal operations can be performed on all LDEVs except for the storage
system command device. For further information on the storage system comm and device, see the HP
StorageWorks XP R A ID M anag er User’s G uide.
Note:
When you cong ure a Continuous Access Journal journal group pair, you have to specify the
serial numbers of the primary storage systems and secondary storage systems. You have to specify
different serial numbers for the of p rimar y storage system and secondary storage system for the same
Continuous Access Journal journal group pair. If you h ave to specify the same serial number, contact
your HP service representative.
Consistency Groups
Continuous Access Journal consistency group numbers equal Continuous Access Asynchronous
consistency group numbers. Therefore, you can create a Continuous Access Journal pair with the
consistency group numbers from R AID Manage, as is the case with Continuous Access Asynchronous.
In
Continuous Access Journal operations, the consistency group numbers that a re specied from RAID
Manager are assigned to the journal group numbers.
The specications for consistency group number are different from the specications for journal group
numbers. One storage system has a total of 128 consistency groups for the primary and secondary data
volumes
(No. 0 to 127 are assigned).
Note:
Th
e
consistency group number of the primary and secondary data volumes to be paired must be
same.
Note:
When Continuous Acc ess Journal and Universal Replicator for Mainframe coexist in the same
storage
system, the consistency group number must be d ifferent from the Continuous Access Asynchronous
consistency group number.
Figure 4 on page 23 shows the corresponding number for consistency groups.
