4.1.0 HP PolyServe Matrix Server administration guide (T5392-96073, October 2010)

If servers from multiple matrices can access the SAN via a shared FC fabric, avoid
importing the same disk into more than one cluster. Filesystem corruption can
occur when different matrices attempt to share the same filesystem.
Only basic disks can be imported. Dynamic disks are not supported.
Shared disks must be partitioned before they are imported into the matrix. If there
is not a partition table in place on the disk, you will not be able to access it via
Matrix Server.
If you want to extend a PSFS filesystem and the underlying partition, you can use
the Extend option provided on the PolyServe Management Console. To make
other changes to the partition table after a disk has been imported, you will need
to deport the disk, make the changes with the Windows Disk Management utility,
and then import the disk again.
Matrix Server supports a maximum of 31 partitions on a disk. Disks containing
a larger number of partitions cannot be imported into the matrix. (If you upgraded
from a Matrix Server release earlier than 3.4, you may currently have imported
disks or LUNs with more than 31 partitions, and may have created dynamic
volumes using those higher-numbered partitions. See Disks containing more than
31 partitions on page 72 for more information.)
Disks containing an active membership partition can be imported; however, the
partition containing the active membership partition cannot be used for a
filesystem. Before importing the disk, you can run mprepair to inactivate the
membership partition (see The mprepair utility on page 250). You will then be
able to use the partition when you import the disk into the matrix.
If you import a large number of disks sequentially, it can take several minutes to
complete the imports. The imports will be faster if you specify all of the disks in
one operation, either by selecting multiple disks on the Import Disks window or
by specifying multiple disks on the mx disk import command line.
To import disks using the PolyServe Management Console, select Storage > Disk >
Import or click Import on the toolbar. The Import Disks window, which appears next,
shows all SAN disks that are not currently imported into the cluster. The disk
descriptions include the vendor, the disks UID, and its size. The Info column specifies
the FC switch used to access the disk. Select the disks that you want to import from
this window.
