4.1.0 HP PolyServe Matrix Server administration guide (T5392-96073, October 2010)
and permissions to fail. Typically, when UAC is enabled the administrator group
accounts do not have the same privileges as the system built-in administrator.
• For best performance, HP recommends that you monitor the matrix from a separate
administrative station rather than from a server in the matrix. The PolyServe
Management Console can be installed on Windows systems outside the matrix.
• Using search bots and running parallel searches across the matrix can have a
negative impact on performance. Users should be aware of the potential effects
of various search activities.
• To ensure that file times are consistent across the matrix, it is important that all
matrix servers operate with synchronized time-of-day clocks. An NTP server is
one commonly used mechanism for synchronizing system clocks.
• The Java Management Extensions (JMX) Remote API is included in the Java Runtime
Environment (JRE) provided with the PolyServe Management Console. The pass-
word file for JMX stores the password in clear text. PolyServe does not create or
use this file and recommends that you do not use it. However, if you do need to
use the password file, please be aware of the security risk.
Tested configuration limits
HP PolyServe has tested Matrix Server configurations up to the following limits:
• 16 servers per matrix
• 256 imported LUNs per matrix for FC configurations; for iSCSI configurations,
the maximum number of connections for the iSCSI initiator
• 256 filesystems per matrix
• 4096 filesystem mounts per matrix
• 128 virtual hosts per matrix
• 128 service and/or device monitors per matrix (the total number of service and
device monitors cannot exceed 128)
• 4 network interface cards per server
• 1 FibreChannel port per server (unless using third-party MPIO software)
These limits will be increased as additional testing takes place.
Theoretically, the tested configuration limits can be exceeded up to the bounds of
the operating system. If you plan to configure your matrix beyond the tested limits,
please contact HP Support for information about any known configuration issues or
concerns.
