Check the server configuration
The Matrix Server mxcheck utility can be used to verify that a server meets the
configuration requirements for Matrix Server. The utility is run automatically whenever
Matrix Server is booted. You can also run mxcheck manually. It is located in the
installation directory, directory, which is typically %SystemDrive%\Program
Files\PolyServe\MatrixServer\bin.
The utility performs the following checks on the server:
• System check: hardware, operating system version, service pack version, available
physical memory.
• Network check: IP network and interface assignments, forward and reverse
hostname lookup.
• Storage check: Host Bus Adapters, drivers, and settings.
• Miscellaneous check: other checks such as the non-paged pool setting.
Output from the utility appears on the screen and is also written to the Application
Log section of the Event Viewer.
Disable a server for maintenance
If you need to perform maintenance (such as an application software upgrade) on
a server that is providing the primary interface for a virtual host, take these steps
before working on the server:
1. Disable the server. (Select the server on the Servers window, right-click, and
select Disable.) This step causes the virtual host to fail over to a backup network
interface on another server.
2. If you want the virtual host to remain on the backup network interface after the
original server is returned to operation but the virtual host is using
AUTOFAILBACK as its failback policy, make that network interface the primary
network interface. (Select the virtual host from the Virtual Hosts window,
right-click, and select Properties.)
3. Perform the necessary maintenance on the original server and then reenable it.
