Prepare for cluster security:
Create roles that allow or deny permission to perform cluster
operations and assign users and groups to the roles. See
Chapter 11 on page 149.
Create administrative roles
(optional).
Matrix Server provides an audit trail of operations that
change the configuration or state of the cluster. See “Matrix
Server audit trail” on page 161.
Review the audit log feature.
Prepare for user access:
Configure SQL clients to access Virtual SQL Servers. See
“Configure SQL clients” in the HP PolyServe Software for
Microsoft SQL Server administration guide.
Configure SQL Server clients
(optional).
Configure CIFS clients using your normal procedures.
Configure CIFS clients (option-
al).
If necessary, give CIFS clients access to hardware snap-
shots. See “Using shadow copies of shared
folders” on page 146.

Prepare for monitoring the cluster:
The event notifier services (SMTP, email, and scripts) can
be configured to send notifications or run scripts when
specific cluster events occur. See “Configure event notifier
services” on page 168.

The Applications tab shows the cluster resources in a table
format and allows you to manage and monitor them from
a single window. See “Applications overview” on page 179.

Configure application monitoring as necessary:
Virtual hosts provide failover protection for servers and
network services. If you will be monitoring other applica-
tions, create virtual hosts as necessary. See “Add or modify
a virtual host” on page 191.

Matrix Server provides built-in service monitors such as
HTTP and TCP and also allows you to create your own
custom monitors. See “Add or modify a service monit-
or” on page 207.
