4.0.0 HP Polyserve Matrix Server Installation Guide (T5392-96046, March 2010)
• Assigning multiple IP addresses to the same NIC is supported only for VLAN
tagging.
• Matrix Server does not support multiple NICs connected to the same subnet without
the use of bonding or teaming.
• Network interfaces should be multicast-capable. If an interface does not provide
this capability, contact HP Support for assistance.
• 802.3x Ethernet flow control cannot be used. Be sure to check the driver settings
for your NICs to ensure that this feature is disabled.
• The network topology should be symmetrical; each server in the matrix should be
connected to the same set of networks.
• The network adapter to which the server’s IP address is bound must appear first
on the Adapter and Bindings list on the Network and Dial-up Connections window.
On the Control Panel, select Network and Sharing Center > Manage network
connections. When the Network Connections window opens, select Advanced >
Advanced Settings to see the Adapter and Bindings tab.
• For iSCSI configurations, HP recommends that the storage be on a separate net-
work.
Fibre Channel switch guidelines
Following are guidelines for configuring Fibre Channel switches to be used with
Matrix Server:
• For all FC switches, it is best practice to place each HBA port and its storage
ports in a separate zone. No other initiator HBA port should be present in this
zone.
• The FC switches managed by the matrix must be from the same vendor. Switches
that will not be managed by Matrix Server can be from other vendors only if all
of the vendors have approved the configuration.
• Multiple Fibre Channel switches are supported; however, they must be configured
in a manner that meets the following requirements:
• Multiple FibreChannel switches are supported; however, they must be configured
in a manner that meets the following requirements:
• Each server must have access to all of the disks to be used by the matrix.
• Each server must have exactly one path to each of the disks. (This requirement
is not necessary if the disks are being managed by third-party MPIO software
that can handle multiple paths).
