4.0.0 HP Polyserve Matrix Server Event Notification Guide (T5392-96053, March 2010)
View event logs
The matrix log is not intended to be read directly. Instead, use these methods:
• The Matrix Event Viewer. This tool, available on the HP PolyServe Management
Console, shows the messages in the matrix log on a particular server.
• The mx server viewevents command. This command is run from the com-
mand line and allows you to filter the events in the matrix log on the specified
server. You can also limit the events displayed by the command to a particular
time range.
• The Matrix Server mcs select command. This command is also run from the
command line and can display the entire matrix log or only those portions that
you specify.
The Matrix Event Viewer is described in the Matrix Server administration fuide. For
information about the mx server viewevents and mcs select commands,
see the Matrix Server command reference guide.
You can view the event messages written to the matrix event log via the Management
Console. Select Start > Programs > Administration Tools > Event Viewer, and then
click Matrix Server to see the log messages. You can use the options on the Action
menu to manipulate the event log.
Event notifier services
Matrix Server provides the following event notifier services:
• SNMP Notifier Service. This service sends SNMP notifications, or traps, to the
configured SNMP targets when the selected events occur. The Microsoft SNMP
service is required.
• Email Notifier Service. This service sends email to specified addresses when the
selected events occur.
• Script Notifier Service. This service allows you to specify a script that will be
triggered when selected events occur.
You will need to configure the services that you want to use with your matrix, including
selecting the events that should trigger the service. For more information, see
“Configure event notifiers and view events” in the Matrix Server administration guide.
