4.0.0 HP Polyserve Matrix Server Administration Guide (T5392-96052, March 2010)

4 Configure servers
Before adding a server to a cluster, verify the following:
The server is connected to the SAN if it will be accessing PSFS filesystems.
The server is configured as a fully networked host supporting the services to be
monitored. For example, if you want Matrix Server to provide failover protection
for your Web service, the appropriate Web server software must be installed
and configured on the servers.
If the hosts file has been modified, it should be consistent with the DNS.
The NICs on the servers in the matrix must be both logically and physically con-
figured and connected to unique subnets per NIC, or bonded NIC.
Add a new server to a cluster
Use the following procedures to add a new server (and, optionally, a new Fibre
Channel switch) to an existing cluster.
Add a New Fibre Channel switch
If you are using Fibre Channel switch-based fencing and need to add a new FC
switch for use with the new server, take these steps before adding the server:
1. Stop the Matrix Server service on all nodes. (Use the Microsoft Management
Console Services snap-in or the command net stop matrixserver.)
2. Start the PolyServe Management Console on one node (select Start > All Pro-
grams > PolyServe Matrix Server > Management Console). On the Matrix
Server Connect window, specify the server, click Connect, and then select Con-
figure. If you are prompted for the user name and password, specify the appro-
priate values.
3. Select the Storage Configuration tab on the Configure Matrix window. In the
SAN Switches section of the tab, click Add to configure the new switch.
4. Click Apply at the bottom of the Configure Cluster window.
