4.0.0 HP Polyserve Matrix Server Administration Guide (T5392-96052, March 2010)
Device type: Select the appropriate device type (DISK, GATEWAY, NTSERVICE,
SHARED_FILESYSTEM, or CUSTOM). See “Overview” on page 217 for a description
of these monitors.
Timeout and Frequency: These fields are set to the default values for the type of device
you have selected. Change them as needed.
Additional parameters: Depending on the type of monitor you are creating, you will
be asked for an additional parameter.
• DISK monitor. Specify the partition to be monitored. The monitor will periodically
attempt to read the first block of this partition. You can specify the partition by a
drive letter such as X: or by a mount point (junction) such as C:\san\vol2.
• GATEWAY monitor. Specify the IP address of the gateway device (such as a
router). The IP address must be on a different subnet than the servers in the matrix.
• NTSERVICE monitor. If you want services dependent on the monitored NT service
to also be started when the NT service is started, click Start dependent services.
Then, at the “Start Service Retry Count” prompt, specify the number of attempts
that should be made.
• SHARED_FILESYSTEM monitor. At the Filesystem prompt, select the filesystem that
is to be monitored. The “Filename” parameter is optional. Enter the name of a
file that the monitor probe should open and attempt to read to determine the
health of the filesystem. The filename should be relative to the mount point of the
filesystem. When the filesystem is mounted, the mountpath will be prepended to
the filename to determine the complete filename path that should be probed.
NOTE:
If the file that you specify does not already exist, you will need to create it.
If you do not enter a filename, Matrix Server will create a file that will be used
by the monitor probe. The file will be named MxS\<serverIP>\<monit-
or_name>, where <serverIP> is the dotted decimal IP address of the hostname
for the server, and <monitor_name> is the name assigned to the
SHARED_FILESYSTEM device monitor.
• CUSTOM monitor. Specify the pathname to the probe script to be used with the
monitor.
The following example shows a monitor created on the server svr1.
