3.7.0 HP StorageWorks HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software upgrade guide HP Scalable NAS for Linux (AG513-96005, October 2009)
you can also upgrade to a newer Oracle release. MxDB-Oracle-HiAv 3.7 supports
both 64-bit 10.2.0.4 and 11.1.0.7.
Performance characteristics can be very different between Oracle major releases
and often init.ora parameters require adjusting or become obsolete. Similarly,
performance tuning differences exist when moving from a 32-bit to 64-bit environment,
particularly changes in memory requirements. Adjusting Oracle parameters for optimal
database performance requires some consideration and thorough testing before
migrating your production environment.
Oracle installation information
See the articles referenced in Metalink articles, page 62, for extensive information
about installing Oracle.
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv considerations
The 3.7.0 release requires a supported 64-bit operating system and 64-bit Oracle
10g/11g. The same set of datafiles operating under MxDB-Oracle-HiAv 3.5.1 can
be used when changing the word size from 32-bit to 64-bit; there is no need to export
and import data. Once the database size is changed to 64-bit, the database must
be used with the Oracle 64-bit binary and not the 32-bit binary. Therefore, when
changing the Oracle word size after the database has been upgraded to 64-bit, any
32-bit nodes remaining in the cluster will not be available for failover.
The upgrade procedure requires a complete shutdown of the database and removal
of the old MxDB-Oracle-HiAv Virtual Oracle Services. After the database(s) have
been upgraded and can be started on the 64-bit system, you can recreate the Virtual
Oracle Services on the 3.7.0 cluster.
User and group IDs
When you restore Oracle users and groups after upgrading the operating system,
be sure that the user and group IDs on the new operating system match those used
on RHEL4/SLES9. This is important because the users/groups must have the same
IDs to be able to access their files and directories on the PSFS filesystem. For example,
if user1 had uid 500 before the upgrade but is assigned uid 501 after the upgrade,
the user will no longer have the correct directory permissions on the PSFS filesystem.
