3.7.0 HP StorageWorks HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software upgrade guide HP Scalable NAS for Linux (AG513-96005, October 2009)

2 Upgrade Matrix Server/MxFS-Linux
or HP Clustered File System/FS
Option software-only products
This procedure must be used for sites running both Matrix Server and MxFS-Linux
and for sites running both the HP Clustered File System and FS Option for Linux
software-only products. Upgrades to HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software 3.7.0
and FS Option for Linux 3.7.0 are supported only from the 3.5.1 releases of these
products.
The upgrade introduces a change that requires the backup of the MxReg data registry
prior to the cluster upgrade. This data will automatically be imported into the new
3.7.0 nodes after all 3.5.1 nodes have been removed from the cluster.
The data stored in the MxReg data registry is updated when certain actions are
performed by NFS vhosts. To preserve the state information stored in the backup
copy, vhost NFS file serving must be halted before the MxReg data is backed up.
The MxFS migration package provided with the upgrade includes tools to automate
this procedure. Additionally, HP recommends that you do not configure vhosts on
3.5.1 nodes during the upgrade.
With this change, it is not possible to use a rolling upgrade procedure, adding to
the importance of completing the upgrade as quickly as possible.
NOTE:
Because of the changes introduced with the new operating system and the 3.7.0
release, you will need to reestablish all NFS client connections after the upgrade is
complete. One way to do this is to reboot each client machine after the cluster has
been upgraded to the 3.7.0 release.
The upgrade consists of the following steps:
1. Install the MxFS migration package RPM on all nodes running 3.5.1.
