3.7.0 HP StorageWorks HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software release notes for Linux (AG513-96006, October 2009)

New event notifier services. The event notifier services can be configured to send an SNMP trap,
to send email, or to run a script when specific events occur.
New HP Scalable NAS SNMP service. This service provides MIBs for retrieval of all cluster-wide
state and status information.
New Performance Dashboard. The Performance Dashboard provides server and cluster performance
data over a period of time (the last hour, day, week, month, or year). Filesystem data is provided
for individual PSFS lesystems and can be aggregated for all PSFS lesystems.
HP CFS Management Console features:
New Installed Software viewer that lists operating system and Scalable NAS File Serving Software
currently installed on the system.
Progress task bar that displays progress indications when you initiate a task on the console.
Other features:
Small files performance enhancement. Changes have been made to the PSFS filesystem to improve
performance for small files. Existing filesystems can be upgraded to take advantage of this en-
hancement.
Support for Linux Device Mapper Multi-Path IO (MPIO) on various SAN arrays. The Device Mapper
Multipath Enablement Kit for HP StorageWorks Disk Arrays includes tuned configuration files
supporting HP XP, EVA, and MSA arrays. The kit is available on www.hp.com.
Support for hardware snapshots on HP MSA2000 and HP XP storage arrays.
New HP Scalable NAS script that integrates into the system startup and sets system parameters
to provide good performance in a file serving environment. This script, which is named
SizingActions, is enabled by default but can be disabled if you need to modify system para-
meters to provide best performance for a particular application.
Implementation changes in the 3.7.0 release
The following implementation changes have been made in this release:
Certain cluster configuration information is now stored in the new mxds datastore on the membership
partitions. The datastore is automatically backed up on a daily basis. However, you may want to
back up the datastore manually after making configuration changes to ensure that you always
have an up-to-date backup.
The minimum size for membership partitions has been increased to 1 GB.
Networks can now be excluded from HP Scalable NAS administrative traffic.
The notifiers available in previous Matrix Server and HP Clustered File System releases have been
replaced by the new script event notifier. If you were using notifiers with an earlier release, you
can configure the script event notifier with your script and specify the events that should trigger
the notifier.
The admin login, the mxpasswd file and the mxpasswd command are now obsolete. These features
have been replaced by the new user authentication method described under Security Features,
above.
The curses-based mxconfig utility has been replaced by mx commands that can be included in
scripts.
The mxlogger command has been replaced by the mx matrix log command.
The network ports used for external connections to HP Scalable NAS have changed. HP Scalable
NAS now listens on port 6771 (HTTPS connection from the HP CFS Management Console). If HP
Scalable NAS is behind a rewall, it may be necessary to change the rewall rules to allow trafc
for this port. (Matrix Server/HP Clustered File System previously listened on ports 9050, 9070,
and 9071.)
