B Provisioning Oracle on HP 4400
Scalable NAS systems
Provisioning for Oracle on the HP 4400 Scalable NAS system is simple and quick,
as the system is shipped with three filesystems already created. Customers can use
those filesystems for Oracle or can create additional filesystems to meet exact size
requirements.
Configure filesystems for Oracle datafiles
HP Scalable NAS provides a mount option called DB Optimize for PSFS filesystems.
This option should be used on filesystems intended for Oracle datafiles, log files,
temporary files, control files, rollback segments, and crs voting and membership files.
DB Optimized filesystems should be used exclusively for these Oracle files and should
be different from filesystems containing the Oracle binaries ($ORACLE_HOME and
$ORACLE_BASE). The premade filesystems provided on the HP 400 Scalable NAS
system are mounted without the DB Optimized option.
You can use one of the premade filesystems for $ORACLE_BASE and at least one of
the filesystems for oracle data files. Filesystems used for Oracle datafiles must be
remounted with the DB Optimized option. You can also create new filesystems if the
factory default sizes (500GB) are not appropriate. (See Add new filesystems in
Appendix C, Initial configuration for HP 4400 Scalable NAS systems, in the HP
Scalable NAS File Serving Software administration guide for more information.)
After determining the filesystem to be used for Oracle datafiles, use the following
procedure to configure the filesystem. It is best to set the DB Optimized mount option
before you export the filesystem for Oracle to ensure that NFS clients are not using
it. Otherwise the unmount operation may fail.
The example that follows assumes you are using the second preconfigured filesystem
for $ORACLE_HOME and the third for oracle datafiles. Take these steps:
1. Unmount the filesystems chosen for Oracle.
2. Remove the persistent mounts from the filesystems.
