3.7.0 HP StorageWorks HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software provisioning guide for Oracle HP Scalable NAS (AG513-96013, October 2009)

NOTE:
Once there is an Oracle installation, the Oracle uid and gids are set. Because these
identifiers are used to determine user and group permission across NFS servers
exporting the same filesystem, the users and groups must be created with identical
uids and gids on all Oracle servers that share filesystems. Oracle has the same user
id requirement for Oracle RAC installs needing access to shared data files. So it is
a good idea to standardize user and group ids on servers that will share a filesystem
in advance of your first install.
NFS mount options
When deploying Oracle on storage exported by NFS servers using HP Scalable
NAS, the most important document for configuring NFS Clients is the Oracle Database
Installation Guide for your specific port of Oracle. The Oracle Database New Feature
Guide 10g Release 2(10.2) Part Number B14214-04 Section 1.1.1.8 provides links
to all of the Oracle installation guides for RAC and Single Instance installs for all
possible Oracle Server platforms. Similarly, you can find the installation guides for
11g linked from Oracle Database New Features Guide11g Release 1 (11.1) Part
Number B28279-03 in section 1.2.9. These guides offer Oracle port-specific NFS
mount options guidance.
In addition, Oracle has published Metalink article 359515.1, which has a list of
recommended NFS mount options. The options can be different depending on the
operating system, RAC or Single Instance, and the type of files located in the mounted
NFS volumes such as Oracle binaries, data files, or (for RAC only) CRS Voting Disk
and OCR. This implies that each of these file types may need to be mounted separately
with different mount options. If you are using Direct NFS for accessing data files,
choosing the correct mount options for datafiles is less critical, as Direct NFS
negotiates the options it believes appropriate, regardless of how it is mounted on
the Oracle server.
Oracle server operating system parameters
Documentation for each Oracle port supporting Oracle on Network Attached Storage
covers operating system parameters for NFS. For example, the Installation Guide for
11gR1 x86_64 recommends the following settings for the Oracle Server (NFS client):
ip_local_port_range: 1024 65000
rmem_default: 262144
