S.A.M.E. (Stripe and Mirror Everything). SAME is Oracle Corporation’s recom-
mended storage layout method.

HP Scalable NAS also offers graphical and
command-line management interfaces for central management of the entire NAS
cluster. All the Oracle DBA needs to do is mount the exported storage on the
Oracle server and get to work.
• Standards. The NAS heads used in the cluster are commodity Linux servers—no
proprietary hardware is required. Moreover, because the NAS heads run Linux,
administering the NAS heads is no different than any other Linux system.
• Oracle 11g Direct NFS Support. Oracle servers running version 11g can use Or-
acle’s NFS client, called Direct NFS, for accessing data files over NFS. This release
of HP Scalable NAS supports this feature. By combining the high availability
features of direct NFS (multiple outbound paths to NFS servers) and the virtual
server capability of HP Scalable NAS, even higher overall Oracle application
availability is possible.
The following chapters discuss information important for these customer roles:
• NAS administrator
• System administrator
• Oracle DBA
