If HP Scalable NAS must use a network that was configured to discourage
administrative traffic, it will fail over to a network that allows the traffic as soon as
that network becomes available to all servers in the cluster.
If multiple interface failures occur on a server and there is not another network
available for the administrative network, the server may drop out of the cluster. The
remaining servers will continue to use the existing administrative network.
Making network changes
When making network changes, you should be aware of the following:
• Do not add or delete an active network interface device from the operating system
while HP Scalable NAS is running. Attempting to do this can adversely affect the
entire cluster. If you need to add or delete an active network interface on a par-
ticular server, first stop HP Scalable NAS on that server. Then make your admin-
istrative change and start HP Scalable NAS.
• An active network interface should not be modified or taken down via the oper-
ating system while HP Scalable NAS is running. Attempting to do this can cause
adverse effects. If any part of a network interface definition needs to be changed,
stop HP Scalable NAS on the affected server, shut down the network, and then
make the change. When the change is complete, bring up the network and restart
HP Scalable NAS on the node.
Allow, discourage, or exclude administrative traffic
By default, all network interfaces allow administrative traffic. However, you can
specify which networks you prefer to use for this traffic. For performance reasons,
HP recommends that these networks be isolated from the networks used by external
clients to access the cluster.
To allow or discourage administrative traffic on a network interface, select that
network interface on the Servers window, right-click, and then select either Allow
Admin. Traffic, Discourage Admin. Traffic, or Exclude Admin Traffic as appropriate.
The setting is applied to all interfaces within the same subnet on all servers of the
cluster.
On the command line, issue the appropriate mx netif command:
mx netif allowadmintraffic <interface_ip> ...
mx netif discourageadmintraffic <interface_ip> ...
mx netif excludeadmintraffic <interface_ip> ...
