Configure Matrix File Shares
Configuration Overview
MatrixFileSharesareWindowsCIFSsharesassociatedwithaHP
PolyServeSoftwarefilesystemhealthmonitor.ClientsconnecttoMatrix
FileSharesusingthenetworknameorIPaddressofanyphysicalserver
inthecluster.EachnodeintheclusterprovidesaccesstothesamePSFS
filesystemsthroughitsMatrix
FileShares.
Forhighavailability,MatrixFileSharescanbedeployedwitha
connection‐orientedloadbalancersuchastheMicrosoftDistributedFile
System(DFS).Clientconnectionrequeststoasinglenetwork name
(providedbyDFS)areevenlydistribu tedamongthenodesinthecluster.
Onfailureofanode,DFS
detectsthelossofnetworkconnectivityand
routesnewconnectionandre‐connectionrequeststotheremainingnodes
inthecluster.
TheMatrixFileSharemonitorcandetectasituationinwhichanodein
theclusterlosesaccesstothePSFSfilesystem(forexample,becauseofa
SANproblem)
butisotherwisehealthy.Themonitorthentearsdownthe
associatedCIFSsharetopreventfutureconnectionandre‐connection
requestsfrombeingdirectedtoanodethathaslostaccesstothe
underlyingsharedfilesystem .
Whenthenoderegainsaccesstothesharedfilesystem,theMatrixFile
Sharemonitorautomatically
recreatestheCIFSshareandthenodethen
startshandlingrequests.
Therearetwostepstotheconfigurationprocess:firstcreateMatrixFile
SharesandthenconfigureDFS(oranotherloadbalancer).
