Chapter 2: Overview 5
Administration Tools > Event Viewer, and then click on Matrix Server to
see the log messages. You can use the options on the Action menu to
manipulate the event log. Note that the Windows event log on a
particular server includes only the messages that were generated on that
server.
Event Notifier Services
Matrix Server provides the following event notifier services:
SNMP Notifier Service. This service sends SNMP notifications, or
traps, to the configured SNMP targets when the selected events occur.
The Microsoft SNMP service is required.
Email Notifier Service. This service sends email to specified
addresses when the selected events occur.
Script Notifier Service. This service allows you to specify a script that
will be triggered when selected events occur.
You will need to configure the services that you want to use with your
matrix, including selecting the events that should trigger the service. For
more information, see “Configure Event Notifiers and View Events” in
the PolyServe Matrix Server Administration Guide.
Event Messages
Each message is labeled with a unique identifier and provides the
following information:
A description of the event, including the time it occurred.
The location of the event, such as the IP address of a server.
The source of the event, such as a Matrix Server component.
A severity level that indicates the relative importance of the event.
A category such as Startup or Filesystem that can be used for sorting
when viewing the matrix log. Audit trail messages and certain other
messages do have a category.
Some event messages also describe corrective actions or workarounds
that should be taken.
